FREE TRAINING Top 10 Downloads from 2008 A look back at the past year's most popular picks by Tyler Charles | posted January 8, 2009

Why do we care so much about what other people like? Is it because we don't trust our own judgment? Because we can't discern our own preferences without billboard charts, box office totals, and iTunes?
No, I don't think that's it.
We like ratings, rankings, and reviews because we're afraid we might miss something. I can't see every movie at the theater (nor do I want to), but if a movie earns epic reviews, I will probably decide not to miss that one. On FaithVisuals, our Most Popular section highlights the top ten downloads from the previous month, but currently this page is dominated by holiday-themed videos that won't be in demand again for another eleven months. So for this article, all holiday-themed videos were stricken from the list. Here are the top 10 non-holiday-themed downloads from FaithVisuals in 2008:
10) Who is Jesus?—twentyonehundred productions
This FaithVisuals-exclusive is filmed in the Person-on-the-Street style, posing the same important question to Christians, Muslims, Atheists, and others who are less sure about their beliefs. Because of the differing opinions expressed, "Who Is Jesus?" is a great conversation-starter.
8-tie) Who Are We?—Floodgate Productions
Floodgate's energetic transitional video provides a perfect segue (both during your service and within this article) from knowing who Jesus is to understanding our identity as his church. Set to a techno beat, "Who Are We?" is a vibrant challenge—imploring Christians to understand the value of their uniqueness.
8-tie) Broken Vessels—Highway Video
Sometimes images and music are perfectly paired together—combining to communicate in ways words never could. "Broken Vessels" is a perfect example of this synergy, and in this video, that union of image and music manages to convey the delicate bond between brokenness and hope, sadness and compassion, pain and joy.
6-tie) The Life-Saving Station—Floodgate Productions
This teaching video employs a new parable to illustrate what the role of the Church should be, and, sadly, how easy it is for us to deviate from our "life-saving" mission. This is a great reminder—one that convicts without being preachy—to which any audience can relate.
6-tie) Heart of God—Worship Films
This compilation of quotes encourages the church to get involved in world missions. "Heart of God" has been a popular video since 2006, and it still inspires the church to get involved and do more.
5) Stop—Community Christian Church
Slipping from its #1 ranking in 2007, "Stop" is still the most popular episode in the seven-video Christ Follower series. Continuing to be one of our most discussed videos, it divides viewers into two camps—those who enjoy the video's humorous message and those who think the video is divisive and offensive to sincere Christ-followers who may resemble the "Christian."
