the absolute minimum is a computer with a presentation software (a laptop will work best if you do not have room for a separate video control area. A projector (with associated cabling and multiple inputs - computer (or RGB), video, svideo and a remote to switch between them easily), a dvd player (remember you video will need audio, projector audio will not be sufficient for more than a board room, and therefore must be run to the audio mixer.) although i find dvd players hard to use during services because they are hard to cue up and have auto shut offs and freeze when left too long. with these things, you can play and project promotional dvds, sermon notes, and song words and i think that is a good minimum.

Gary has covered some good things take his advice. Make sure that the projector you buy/use is bright enough for the room. What I mean by this is that your projector should be strong enough to overcome both the distance that it will project from and the light that the room will have while the image is being projected. There is nothing worse than a projected video that no one can see!

Here are the basic equipment requirements for multimedia presentations:
Video screen, projector, DVD player, audio board, and dependable volunteers.
You can add a new, inexpensive computer for presentations. Download Windows Media Player 10.0 free from Microsoft.com to play back videos. Play back WMV, MPG and MOV files from your hard drive, not a disc. If the computer has a DVD drive pre-installed, DVDs should play back fine.
Adding your own materials (lyrics, verses, quotes, video clips)? Try OpenOffice.org Impress software (free) or Microsoft Office (educational version), which should include PowerPoint software (retails around $150.00).
Many excellent Christian software packages are available that include multiple Bible translations, graphics, lyrics, etc. These will take your presentations to their highest level.
Please PRACTICE your presentation BEFORE church service! The fewer the mistakes, the better you’ll communicate with your congregation.

A lightbulb. In all seriousness, there are creative options for almost any combination of equipment. A few lights with gobos could provide a great sermon backdrop. Basic presentation software, a laptop and a projector will give the ability to project words, pictures, video, etc... on a variety of surfaces (you don't always have to aim at the screen, you know). Live cameras, moving backgrounds, advanced movie software can all be added as situation and finances warrent. If video is key to your presentation style, don't skimp - if not, add pieces as you can...
