We're looking for new ideas for Christmas services. Anyone have creative, fresh, simple ideas of visual media that you wouldn't mind others using?

This year we started the Advent season with a unique message to the people during the children's story. My cell phone rudely rang interrupting my story to the children. But it was Santa! The kids could see his name on my phone! He called to say he had a "Podcast that we needed to download." Which we did and then we could hear and view Santa's message during the story time. His special message was that every year children all round the world come to him asking for gifts. This year he wanted to come to us and ask us for a gift - to be his special helpers. This was the launch of our Advent theme: The Power of One (which we add to each Advent Sunday) and the launch for an year long drive to "raise an ark" for Heifer Project. The children were spell bound! To see Santa on screen, talking the THEM! And the "power of one" theme was well introduced by his presence. Our plan is to have Santa come again next year (via "podcast") when we celebrate the gift of an ark the Sunday before Advent.

From a visual standpoint, if your church is able to use a consistent image (or "logo") to advertise their Christmas sermon series, incorporate it into other opportunities to use media. For example, my church is doing a sermon series focused on "grace" and they have a logo that is consistent on bulletin covers, PowerPoint announcements, and also paves the way for the other media -- video clips, etc. -- that they are using church-wide, in worship services and otherwise.

Greg Atkinson of ChurchVideoIdeas.com says: How you plan and prepare for the holiday season will make a huge difference for your church's ministry opportunities. These are the days when your church staff and creative planning team should be gathering to discuss ways to make Christmas count this year: ways to capture the joy, wonder, and nostalgia of the season, and ways to offer love, hope, grace, and peace to all who may stumble (literally) through your door. To see some of his ideas for Christmas planning, read this recent article from FaithVisuals.com: http://faithvisuals.com/help/articles/christmasstartplanningnow.html
